The time has come once again to choose housing for the next school year!

On March 25, Whittier College announced via email that the Fall 2022 Housing application is now open. Students registered with the Student Disability Services Office were given priority in regards to receiving the application before the rest of the student body. The College is returning to the pre-COVID protocol of mandating students to live on campus unless they file an exemption application. The priority housing deadline is April 24; all applications received after that will be placed on a wait list. Students will know which dorm they will be housing in for the 2022 – ‘23 school year by May 20, at the earliest, or by May 27 at the latest.

Housing options include dorm buildings in both upper and lower campus. Turner, three Harris buildings (A – C), Wanberg, and Campbell make up the upper campus dorm options; Johnson, Stauffer, — the first-year building — and Ball are Whittier College’s lower campus dorms. Students will be given the option to choose the residence hall they would like to live in. If you are interested in a themed living community, such as Gender Inclusive Housing, please contact Housing and Residential life 562.907.4223 or residentiallife@whittier.edu, or the Office of Equity and Inclusion oei@whittier.edu.

If students have questions regarding Emotional Support Animals (ESA) and Service Animals, they should contact the Student Disability Services Office as soon as possible.

Whittier College uses StarRez to organize its housing placement. An online portal that focuses on building communities on college campuses. The application includes directions to guide students along the way. On the StarRez Housing Portal, there is an option for roommate selection. Res. Life suggests that, if students want to room with someone they know, they should start to make that arrangement as soon as possible to ensure that they will be able to to room with that person. The initial email sent out by Res. Life includes a link to make it easier to find the application. If the link does not work, however, simply type “StarRez Housing Whittier” into Google’s search bar and you will quickly find Whittier College’s Housing Portal.

Students are required to live on campus unless exempt. Exemptions include:

Living within 30 miles of campus

Entering transfer students

22 years old or older on the 1st day of fall semester

Being married or in a domestic partnership

Disability related need

Financial Hardship

Students with financial hardship must complete a form on the website. The form and more information can be found at the Living Off Campus page on the Whittier College website. Online Housing Selection will take place on the following dates:

May 9: Seniors/Juniors

May 11: Rising juniors

May 13: Rising sophomores

May 14 – 15: Make-up day (available all weekend)

May 16: Residential Life Housing Selection hold.

The email states that the dates are ‘tentative,’ and that more updates will follow as the deadline approaches. All updates will be given via student’s Poet email.
